David Asch, MD, MBA, was presented the 2009 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award by the Association American of Medical Colleges (AAMC) at their annual meeting. Peter Groeneveld, MD, MSc and Joshua P. Metlay, MD, PhD, received Awards of Excellence from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

Rachel Werner, MD, PhD, a Core Investigator at the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP, received the Alice S. Hersh New Investigator Award from AcademyHealth. This prestigious award recognizes scholars early in their careers as health services researchers who show exceptional promise for future contributions.

CHERP Investigator Featured in CNN story, 05/14/2009

David Casarett, MD, MA, CHERP Core Investigator and Staff Physician, Philadelphia VA Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, is quoted by CNN in this report about families preparing for the death of a loved one.



Dr. Casarett directs PROMISE (Performance Reporting and Outcomes Measurement to Improve the Standard of care at End-of-life), a quality measurement center that currently involves 12 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN) and will be VA-wide (21 VISNs) in FY10.

CHERP Investigator Honored by National Hispanic Medical Association, 03/26/2009

Sylvia E. Rosas, MD, MSCE, a Core Investigator for CHERP, a Staff Physician and Research Associate at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, was recognized for her leadership in advocacy at local, state and national levels on issues of importance to the health of the Hispanic community by the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA).

CHERP Principal Investigator Michael J. Fine, MD, MSc has been elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP), a long-standing professional association dedicated to advancing clinical medicine through scientific experiment and discovery.

CHERP Investigator Receives Health Informatics Award, 11/05/2008

The American Health Information Management Association presented CHERP Core Investigator Jennifer Garvin, PhD, MBA, RHIA, CPHQ, CCS, CTR, FAHIMA with a Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) Triumph Award for Research at their annual meeting, which took place in Seattle in mid-October 2008.

CHERP Investigator Elected into the American Society for Clinical Investigation, 06/17/2008

Kevin G. Volpp, MD, PhD, CHERP Investigator and Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Care Systems at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Wharton School, was one of 61 researchers elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) in 2008.

CHERP Investigator Receives Young Investigator Award for Contributions to Health Services Research, 06/10/2008

Rachel Werner MD, PhD received the John D. Thompson Prize for Young Investigators from the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) at the organization’s 2008 annual meeting in early June. The Thompson Prize recognizes faculty from member programs whose work contributes to knowledge in health services based on their research publications in the field. The Prize is in honor of John D. Thompson, a professor of health administration education who set exemplary standards for teaching, commitment to learning, collegial relationships, and health services research.

CHERP Has A Great Showing at 2008 SGIM Conference, 04/15/2008

CHERP Investigators presented 24 abstracts at the Society for General Internal Medicine Conference (SGIM) Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, including two plenary presentations, nine oral presentations and a workshop. In addition, Virginia Chang, MD, PhD received the 2008 SGIM Outstanding Junior Investigator award during a ceremony on Saturday, April 12.
